Back ground Information

Once described by her then small daughter as “Infested with Gardening” Maggie Lamb (52) has been passionate about flowers and gardens since early childhood. She has been creating gardens for over twenty five years and her present Sussex 3/4 acre garden was featured by Roy Lancaster on T.V in 1994. Married to Anthony Lamb in 1979, she has two daughters, Katy (25) and Charlotte (21)

She qualified as a teacher (Cert Ed , B.Ed Art Hons) in 1976 and taught various age groups including adults for several years specialising mostly in Art. In 1994 she obtained the Royal Horticultural Society General Examination in Horticulture with credit. Other qualifications include City and Guild Garden Design and Garden History.

Nowadays energetic Maggie combines her talent as a photographer, her love of gardens and her zest for life to create lively and inspirational illustrated lectures. A natural presenter, these have made her over the last twelve years a sought after entertaining speaker for the National Trust, RHS, Horticultural, Flower and Garden groups. She is fast becoming a popular lecturer on the NADFAS circuit. With easy charm and a light hearted approach she enables her audience to relax and interact whilst sharing her wealth of knowledge.

Engaging and enthusiastic, with a wonderful bubbly sense of humour, she has been described as “a breath of fresh air” when giving lectures at Brighton College of Technology and Thames Valley University. Also in Southern California for their State Horticultural Society, ‘Hollyhock Gardens’ in Carpinteria, ‘Hortus’ in Pasadena, the Santa Barbara Art Museum, the Santa Barbara Botanical Gardens, and the Botanical Garden Trust at ‘Lotusland’ Montecito.

Her skills as a communicator, enthusiasm and natural outgoing way made her for several years (1997-2001) the popular group garden guide for the historic and horticulturally important Borde Hill Garden, holder of the title of Best Private Collection of Champion Trees in the British Isles.

Working within her own garden is her therapy and creative outlet and next to this, nothing gives Maggie more pleasure than to share her lifelong passion and love of flowers, plants and gardens with the fellow enthusiasts that she meets on her travels.
